Indie Devil canceled the October 20 Early Access launch, citing Steam review. A late-October target has no exact date; the older Demo is separate.

October 20 is canceled. Indie Devil cites Steam build review and targets the last week of October; there is no exact new date. The separate Windows Demo is already available.

Nomad Drive is no longer scheduled to enter Early Access on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Developer and publisher Indie Devil announced the change on October 18, attributing it to a release build still awaiting Steam approval. The team says it intends to launch during the last week of October, but no exact replacement day or time has been confirmed. The public Steam store page currently lists the game as Coming soon without an exact release date or purchase option. Developer announcement · Steam store.

For players who had arranged to start a new survival trip on October 20, the practical answer is simple: do not treat the original date as a release confirmation. The older Nomad Drive Demo may still have a download option on Steam, but playing that is not the same thing as accessing the forthcoming Early Access build.

What happened on October 18?

In its “Release Announcement” post, which opens “An important update on our release,” Indie Devil says it submitted its release build for Steam review weeks earlier. The studio attributes the hold-up to a busier-than-usual review queue around Steam Next Fest and says it is still waiting for approval. Rather than fixing a second release date that could also be missed, the team says it arranged to remove the day-specific release date from the store.

These statements are the developer's account of the review process. They are not independent confirmation from Valve about the queue, the build's technical readiness or when it will be approved. The developer also describes the game as finished and ready; that is a studio claim about its preparation, not a HotRank test result.

The announcement is unusually clear on one point: the game will not release October 20. The studio says it expects the launch in the final week of the month and plans to announce the date once approval comes through. A promise about the last week is still a forecast by the developer, not a timestamp or a guarantee verified by a platform release event.

The current status, without the misleading countdown

Question Checked answer as of October 20
Did the October 20 Early Access launch happen? No. The developer publicly canceled that date; the Steam store still says Coming Soon.
Is the new release date October 27, 30 or 31? Unknown. The developer gives the last week of October but no specific day.
Is the delay due to a newly announced gameplay feature or balance patch? Not according to the October 18 statement. It attributes the change to Steam build review, without publishing a new feature list as the cause.
Can I play the Demo? Steam currently advertises a separate Demo download. Availability may change independently.
Does the Demo mean the paid Early Access build has launched? No. The Demo is a distinct app and phase.
What will the Early Access price be? No freshly verified checkout price is established in this research; do not infer one from the free Demo.

The last row is deliberate. Some game-calendar pages and search snippets still show the old October 20 date. A cached listing is weaker evidence for today's status than a dated developer announcement plus the current official store. Conversely, the current “Coming soon” label does not establish an October 31 deadline.

What kind of game is Nomad Drive?

The Steam game and separate Demo currently list Windows support. This report does not establish a Mac, Linux or console release date.

Indie Devil describes Nomad Drive as a survival road trip built around a rundown recreational vehicle. You repair and furnish the RV, gather supplies, manage survival needs and travel through a procedurally generated post-apocalyptic landscape. Its current Steam description advertises solo play and up to four-player co-op for the planned game. That is a summary of the official store's feature pitch, not a review of the final experience or a claim that every advertised feature is present in the Demo. Official store.

There is already a playable Nomad Drive Demo associated with the separate Steam Demo app. The studio posted about this sample during the June 2026 Steam Next Fest, with updates to the Demo since then. Its older May announcement discussed a limited one-to-three-player sample at the time. That historical statement should not be silently promoted into a current four-player Demo guarantee; the main Steam page's planned one-to-four-player feature listing belongs to the full game.

Neither the public announcement nor the store status establishes whether Demo saves carry into the future paid Early Access build. We found no basis to promise transfer or a reset. If transfer is important, wait for explicit developer confirmation about the specific release version before investing hours on that assumption.

What should you do if you planned to buy on October 20?

First, open Nomad Drive on Steam and look at the release state—not just a search result headline or an old calendar. Second, follow the game's official Steam news for an exact replacement launch notice. Third, if you want to decide whether the repair-and-survival loop interests you, consider the separate Demo while remembering that it is not the paid Early Access release. Finally, do not rely on unverified price quotes or Steam key offers while the launch and purchase conditions are unresolved.

We will update this report when Indie Devil announces an exact day or the Steam store opens sales, distinguishing that later confirmation from the canceled October 20 plan. Demo availability and save-transfer rules will need their own confirmation.

What is still unknown?

We cannot independently establish Valve's internal review queue, exactly when approval will arrive, a day-specific release commitment, first-day performance or the final price. The developer's expectation of a launch in the last week of October may change. If an older third-party page disagrees with the developer's October 18 notice, we will identify the time difference rather than merge incompatible dates into a fake “confirmed” launch.

The studio also linked its gameplay-overview video from an earlier Steam update; that video illustrates the intended game rather than proving approval, October 20 availability or today's performance.
