ArcheAge Chronicles or Loftia? What carries over from the demos

Compare two free Steam Next Fest demos: combat or cozy play, save carryover, Loftia account linking and the October 26 deadline.

Both demos are free. ArcheAge resets progress; Loftia carries it forward, with website-account linking needed for rewards and recovery. The festival ends October 26, 10 a.m. PDT.

Both ArcheAge Chronicles and Loftia have free, publicly available demos during Steam Next Fest, October 19–26, 2026. But there is one difference worth knowing before you put hours into either: ArcheAge Chronicles says its demo saves will not transfer to Early Access, whereas Loftia says your completed quests, collected items and character progression will carry forward—provided you follow its account-linking instructions. The choice is therefore about more than whether you prefer combat to a cozy multiplayer world.

Steam's official October Next Fest runs from October 19 at 10 a.m. Pacific daylight time through October 26 at 10 a.m. PDT. That is October 20 at 1 a.m. through October 27 at 1 a.m. in Beijing. The event is a chance to try demos of upcoming games, not a claim that either full game has launched. The two developers have published their own participation notices and instructions, which take priority for game-specific conditions. ArcheAge Chronicles: combat first, with no lasting demo save

If you want to test a fighting system rather than build a home, ArcheAge Chronicles offers the clearer experiment. XLGAMES says everyone with a Steam account can visit the official Steam store page and select Download Demo. Its announcement does not require a separate sign-up, lottery or invite. The producer says this festival demo is available worldwide and supports English, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Regional servers are planned in North America, Europe and Asia, though actual network conditions may vary.

The demo adds PvP and the Throne of Hinnon dungeon to the earlier network-test material. The release notice names Warrior, Ranger, Berserker and Mage as the four playable classes. Producer Ham estimates roughly two to three hours of quest content, not two to three hours for every completionist activity. The new dungeon is a higher-level challenge outside ordinary quest progression; do not assume a casual first session will clear it. PvP is available earlier than usual: after moving beyond the opening town, the producer directs players to a Nui Statue to enter a PvP channel.

The limits matter as much as the attractions. The October 1 developer announcement explicitly says housing and trade are not part of this demo, even though the larger project discusses life skills and other systems. It also states that progress and save data will not transfer to Early Access. Treat your character and build as a trial run. If your goal is to invest now in a permanent account, the official terms do not promise that outcome. XLGAMES demo announcement and producer letter.

A sensible first hour in ArcheAge Chronicles

Start with the tutorial and one weapon setup, test basic movement and defensive timing, then see how the chosen class feels in a quest encounter. When the world opens up, locate a Nui Statue if you want to experience the PvP channel. Leave the hidden-key dungeon challenge for later unless testing difficult group combat is the main reason you installed the game. This is an editorial suggested route, not a tested optimal build or guaranteed dungeon walkthrough.

Loftia: a gentler introduction, but an account step you should not miss

Loftia is aimed at a different afternoon. Its official festival page invites players into Loftia City for opening story quests, resource salvaging, farming, decorating, group Adventures and social play. The demo stops before the next district, Hanging Gardens. That boundary is important: screenshots or feature lists about the future Early Access version are not evidence that pets, additional districts or all advanced systems are playable now.

Qloud Games says the free demo can be downloaded from Loftia on Steam. The company plans to launch Early Access on November 3, 2026, but an announced date is not a record of a future launch having already happened. Only one character per account can be created during this demo; the developer says more characters will be possible after Early Access begins.

Unlike the combat-first alternative, time spent in Loftia is intended to count later. The studio says completed quests, collected items, character progression and the character name carry into Early Access. The October 19 (UTC) Steam announcement adds a practical caveat: players need to link their Loftia website account in-game using an email address to redeem rewards, and the developer warns that without linking an account it may be unable to recover demo progress or rewards. If preserving your efforts matters, complete that link while the demo is available and confirm the game shows your account as connected; do not rely on a screenshot alone as proof of a successful transfer.

The official demo page specifies a name-reservation limit: a demo character name may become available to other players if the account does not log in to Early Access during the period November 3, 2026–February 3, 2027. This is a condition on keeping a name, not a general statement that all gameplay progress expires in February. Read the official Loftia Steam announcements for any later correction.

Want the event reward? Check the extra condition

The developer describes a Demo Banner reward for entering the Player Neighborhood; it says this can be reached early in the opening experience. The October 19 post says rewards require linking the Loftia website account in-game. Loftia's event page also describes Pebble Chair and Pebble Couch friend-invite rewards (one and two invited friends respectively), with account sign-in for tracking and claiming. These are developer-published reward conditions, not a statement that we claimed the items ourselves. Instructions could change, so use the in-game account screen and official reward page rather than an unrelated community guide.

Free demo, paid Early Access—and an internet requirement

Loftia’s current official FAQ announces a US$29.99 buy-to-play base price, with a 17% launch discount to US$24.89 and regional pricing. These are publisher-announced US-dollar amounts for the future release, not a completed checkout or a price in every country. The Steam demo is free; the paid Early Access game is not. Check your region’s store price when sales actually open.

The same FAQ describes an optional Backer Boutique for cosmetic items and a Community Pass that adds cosmetic rewards to World Projects alongside standard rewards. Qloud Games says these do not affect gameplay and that it will not use gacha monetization. Those are the developer’s published plans, not our verification of a live cash shop.

Loftia also requires an internet connection; it does not offer offline play. You can pursue most activities alone, but solo play still takes place inside the online game.

Which should you download first?

Choose ArcheAge Chronicles if you want to evaluate fighting, weapons, PvP or whether you enjoy an upcoming action multiplayer game. You can try it without making a lasting character-investment decision, because progress will reset at Early Access. Choose Loftia if you want lower-pressure social activities or if the chance to retain your demo progress makes an early start attractive—but take the account-linking step seriously.

If you have time for both, a practical sequence is to spend a short session in each, then devote the rest of the event to the game that fits your preferences. Neither studio has promised that its entire Early Access feature set is represented in the demo. We have also not independently tested performance, matchmaking, payment flows, actual regional checkout prices or what happens to local files after the event. These are legitimate questions, not facts to invent from a player-count chart.

Before the deadline: four checks

  1. Open the ArcheAge Chronicles Steam page or Loftia Steam page and choose the game's demo download rather than mistaking a wishlist button for a released full game.
  2. Confirm your local deadline against the festival's October 26, 10 a.m. PDT finish; in Beijing this falls on October 27 at 1 a.m.
  3. For Loftia, connect the developer account through the in-game instructions and check the reward/name rules if they matter to you.
  4. For ArcheAge Chronicles, plan around a save reset; if you want a permanent character, follow its eventual Early Access announcement rather than assuming this trial will count.

Source and update note (research checked October 20, 2026): This comparison uses Valve's event schedule, XLGAMES' Steam notices, and Qloud Games' official demo site and Steam notices. We will revisit it if either developer changes demo availability, carryover terms, linking requirements or the November 3 target. No hands-on endorsement, sponsored ranking or commercial purchase is claimed.
