Scam With Your Friends is now in Steam Early Access on Windows. Its co-op joke is a call center run by your friends, with fictional AI callers and a daily quota. Before buying for the AI conversations, check the Qwen3 voice download and the first-day fixes for speech crashes and online lobbies. Steam listing · Developer hotfix
It is out, but this is Early Access—not the finished version
The Steam listing names JakeHub and Metater as developers and Jatater Worldwide as publisher. It gives October 15 as the Early Access release date. SteamDB's historical release record places the game unlocking at 18:26:57 UTC on October 15, or 02:26:57 on October 16 in Beijing. That's the Windows Steam game with app ID 4954910, not an earlier playtest build. Steam · SteamDB
Early Access means players can buy and play a work in progress. The developers say they aim to expand fictional callers, scenarios, progression and co-op reliability using feedback. Their Steam Q&A currently targets a possible full release around mid-December 2026, but calls this an estimate, not a promised date. If you need a polished, complete campaign, treat that plan as provisional. Developer Early Access Q&A
What do you actually do with your friends?
The game's joke is putting players on the wrong side of a scam-baiting video. Your virtual team operates a cartoonish call center in Kolkata, India. Each workday involves improvising conversations with fictional AI callers, selecting ridiculous schemes and using in-game computer tools to reach a money quota. Miss it and the boss's performance review becomes part of the comedy. Later workdays introduce more opportunities for trouble: viruses, scambaiters, disruptions and escalating schemes. This is a fictional simulation, not a guide to contacting or deceiving real people. Official game description · Steam features
The published feature list confirms single-player and online co-op, including joining friends or a public lobby. Steam Workshop is listed, and the developers describe support for customized caller personalities. They do not establish a reliable maximum player count in the sources checked for this article, so we won't promise a specific lobby size. Steam features
What does “AI voice control” mean here?

For a look at the game in motion, watch the official gameplay trailer on JakeHub’s YouTube channel. It is a promotional demonstration, rather than a test of the launch hotfix.
The Steam page explicitly discloses AI-generated, reactive dialogue for fictional in-game characters and a connection to the external AI service OpenRouter. In a September 12 developer response on the Steam discussion board, JakeHub explained the intended split: speech recognition and synthesized voices run locally, while the caller's conversational language-model component runs in the cloud through OpenRouter. That's a developer description of the system, not an independent audit of network traffic or data handling. It also explains why a broadband connection is in the game's minimum requirements. Steam disclosure · Developer discussion
There is an important distinction: AI calls are part of the game, not a guarantee that every language, microphone or PC will behave identically. Steam lists Simplified Chinese for the interface, audio and subtitles among its supported languages. That listing does not independently prove the quality of Chinese speech recognition or the translation in every scenario. The official launch note specifically advises players using non-English languages to let the Qwen3 text-to-speech (TTS) download finish on the main menu to obtain higher-quality generated voices. The publisher still links an “Unlimited Playtest AI” offer, explicitly limited to the playtest. That does not establish the paid game’s AI allowance, any ongoing fee, or a requirement to supply your own API key. We could not verify a clear paid-game credit policy from the materials checked. If ongoing AI access affects your purchase, check with the developer before paying. Publisher’s playtest-only label
First-day problems and what the hotfix actually changed
The release notice acknowledged AI and voice-recognition complaints. The developer’s “Hot Fixes” announcement at 22:01 UTC on October 15 (06:01 on October 16 in Beijing), associated by SteamDB with build 25971330 on October 15 UTC, described multiple changes. These are developer-reported fixes, not proof that every affected machine is now stable. Launch note · Hotfix announcement · Build record
| Launch concern | What the developer said changed | What a player should do |
|---|---|---|
| Qwen3 voice download stalling | Downloads moved to a dedicated server; a warning appears if higher-quality voices aren't ready | Wait for the download at the main menu, or use the explicit continue option if you accept the trade-off |
| Speech system crash on launch | Fixes for crashes on some PCs, including reported GTX 1650 and RTX 4060 Ti configurations | Install the latest Steam update and retry; report persistent crashes rather than assuming they are gone |
| AI connection fails | Fix for incorrect PC clocks interfering with AI access, with clearer guidance | Check that your system date/time is correct and automatically synchronized |
| Problems hosting or joining | Improved handling of temporary Steam network congestion and added public-lobby filters | Check Steam connectivity, update the game, and use the available lobby filters |
| Other interruptions | Controller switching, uploaded callers and boss-review timeout fixes were also listed | Consult the full patch notes for the specific symptom |
These are sensible first checks, not a claim that a particular forum complaint has been diagnosed. If an issue persists, use the game's Steam discussions or the publisher-linked Discord to report your hardware, language, game build and reproducible steps without exposing private personal information.
How to try it today
- Open the official Windows Steam listing and verify the title and app ID 4954910. This is now a purchasable Early Access game rather than the old invite-only playtest.
- Check your PC against the published baseline: Windows 10/11 64-bit, an i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, 3 GB RAM, a GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580, DirectX 11, 5 GB storage and broadband internet. These are developer-stated minimums, not performance benchmarks.
- Install the latest build. If you're using a non-English language, allow the Qwen3 voice download to complete on the main menu before judging voice quality.
- Choose solo play, an online game with friends or a public lobby from the available options. On the current hotfix, public lobbies have player-count and country filters.
- Start with the fictional call-and-quota loop. If AI access or joining fails, check your PC clock, Steam connectivity and patch notes before assuming the whole feature is unavailable.

Price, first impressions and the number making headlines
At our October 16, 2026, 02:22 UTC US storefront check, Steam showed a US-dollar $8.99 introductory offer (10% off $9.99), with the offer labeled as ending October 29. It's a dated US-store display—not a promise for every currency, region, tax treatment or checkout. Check your own Steam account before paying. Steam displayed the early review summary as Mixed at this check; that changes as new reviews come in and is not our hands-on verdict. Steam US product and offer
SteamDB recorded an all-time high of 28,983 concurrent Steam players on October 15 at the time we checked. That is a peak number online at once, not copies sold, distinct purchasers or people playing on any other platform. The publisher's launch note also thanked supporters for 600,000 wishlists—a publisher claim, not a number independently audited here. Neither number tells you whether today's voice generation works on your setup. SteamDB chart · Publisher launch note
Buy now or wait for more patches?
Try it now if your group specifically enjoys improvisational co-op comedy, accepts an evolving Early Access experience and is happy to troubleshoot an occasional voice or lobby issue. Consider waiting if the main attraction is dependable AI dialogue in your own language, you're uncomfortable with a cloud-backed conversational service, or crashes would spoil a planned game night. Those are editorial suggestions based on disclosed features and first-day fixes—not a scored review or a paid playtest.
Two questions remain unresolved from the public materials reviewed: a verified maximum co-op lobby size, and the exact retention/processing policy for players' voice or text in this game's AI workflow. The developer's local/cloud architecture description is useful, but does not replace a privacy policy or independent traffic test. Avoid sharing real credentials or personal details in roleplay conversations.
For updates, use the official Steam page, the publisher's game page and trailer and the October 15 hotfix announcement. We will revisit this report when an official update changes AI access, co-op reliability, pricing or one of those unknowns. For other game reporting, browse HotRank’s Games coverage.
